Then comes choosing the soil and the plants. Always ensure that the soil you choose is suitable for the plant that you intend to grow. As cheap replacements for fertilizers, composts are used by people maintaining container gardens. Your local nursery will normally have information about composting methods. You may make your own compost from your kitchen waste.

Growing a variety of herbs is a brilliant idea to have a beautiful as well as functional container garden. Apart from making for a brilliant display, they provide herbs to your kitchen.

Growing bonsai in your container garden can also make for brilliant form of art. Apart from watering the plants regularly, you will need to prune and trim them annually. However, a container garden may need more water than soil garden as the water dries out very quickly in the containers, especially in summers. Keep this in mind before beginning. There are many other plants, shrubs and creepers that can be grown in container gardens. Select the ones which aren’t expensive to buy or to maintain.

Container gardening has become very fashionable as a hobby these days. It is a pleasurable and healthy leisure activity, which keeps you happy and cheerful. When you grow a container garden which is easy to maintain and easy on the pocket too, it gives you immense satisfaction of being able to pursue your hobby without making a hole in your pocket!
