What are the best herbs to have growing for a tea garden? What about everyday culinary herbs?

Question by Scarlet: What are the best herbs to have growing for a tea garden? What about everyday culinary herbs?

Best answer:

Answer by GetMeTheBigKnife
In relation to everyday culinary herbs: Parsley, basil, thyme, rosemary and oregeno – mint is good too, but it can get out of hand if you don’t prune it back or plant it in a sunken container to keep it from spreading.

Tea garden herbs could range from mint to …just about anything you want to steep your in – you decide on the flavors you like best

New Aluminum Patio, Need to hang patio lights for ambiance, does anyone know what is the best way to do this?

Question by BECKY E: New Aluminum Patio, Need to hang patio lights for ambiance, does anyone know what is the best way to do this?
This patio is a 24 by 24 and would like to hang string lights. Does anyone know who to do this without damaging my patio.
Patio is covered

Best answer:

Answer by DIY Doc
Is the patio covered? Roofed? Canopied?

I recently did string lights for my ex on a 24 by 12, Roofed, and used white, adhesive backed velcro, adding the hook after, in small sections to the loop trapping the cord or close to each light. What that allowed was no damage to the frame, and the ability to adjust the cord, as well as remove the strings if need be.

After the fact the adhesive velcro residue can be removed with Mineral Spirits.

Just my two “sense”

I like Chili Pepper Strings, smile.

I recently purchased a window box for my patio. What small vegetables will grow best?

Question by miranda: I recently purchased a window box for my patio. What small vegetables will grow best?
I live in Alabama so whatever I grow will need to be able to withstand the heat.

I wouldn’t think a window box is large enough to grow veggies. They do well in larger containers though. You might want to try herbs in the window box.

Best Flowers for planter boxes?

Question by Pinky Binks: Best Flowers for planter boxes?
We just moved into a house that has 6 planter boxes on the patio. What would be the easiest and best flowers to plant in them? I was thinking pansies since they are colorful and fairly easy. And if I decided on that, would it be best to remove the dirt that’s already in the boxes and replace with new soil?

Best answer:

Answer by livn4themin
Petunia, silver lace, licorice vine, allysum. A variety of container flowers always looks pretty.

Pansies will reseed every year if you put them in the ground.
Yes I would replace the dirt with new

What grows best in a herb garden?

Question by drumerman38: What grows best in a herb garden?
I am just starting to plant my garden. I decided to do a small herb garden. I would like some examples of herbs that are pretty easy to grow and that taste great. I cook alot with oregano, basil, rosemary, and parsley. Have any tips or any other suggestions for a great garden? Thanks.

Answer by blondie
I grow one every year and the one that will come back each time is chives. Basil is also a good one, gets nice and bushy if you keep the leaves and flowers pinched back. Lavender is amazing because of the aroma. Happy Gardening!

The Best Herb Garden Plants For Inside Your Home

The Best Herb Garden Plants For Inside Your Home

Many people want to know which herb garden plants will grow best inside your home. Well the answer is simple. Nearly all herb garden plants can be grown inside. However, before you go move your entire container garden inside there are some things to consider. Individual herb garden plants will require different environments in order to grow well.

Growing herb garden plants in your home is not only a great way to add tons of great flavor to food, but it’s also a great way to add beauty to your home. Many herb garden plants are quite beautiful, in addition to being useful. Take, for example, Lavender. Lavender has small, pretty, light purple flowers and is not only beautiful to look at, it is also edible. Lavender is popular in some European cuisines and it is also popular in health and beauty products. Instead of paying a fortune for Lavender infused oil, you can simply make your own and have complete control over the result.

When you grow herb garden plants in your home, it’s important to consider where the plants will be placed. Some herb garden plants such as Basil, Oregano, Thyme or Sage prefer full sun, whereas herbs like Chervil and Mint prefer partial sun. Often those who are trying to grow herb garden plants indoors find that it is helpful to use artificial light sources. Fluorescent light bulbs are an affordable way to provide light to your plants in the right spectrum to help them grow. There are other forms of grow light bulbs as well, but fluorescent bulbs are the most affordable and widely available option.

Another important consideration to be made when growing herb garden plants in your home is water. Some plants, such as varieties of Mint, like a lot of water whereas plants like Thyme and Sage do not. Water is something easy to control in an indoor garden. Just be sure that you make a note of which plants need to be watered frequently so that you don’t end up over watering your drought resistant plants.

Growing an herb garden indoors is a great way to begin gardening. Herbs are easy to grow in comparison to other plants like roses or citrus trees. Several different types of herbs can be started from the cuttings of healthy plants, although most are started from seed. Most seed packages will tell you what type of environment that your plants need. Since you won’t be planting them outdoors, you won’t have to worry about frosts and freezes in regards to when you plant.

One last thing to keep in mind when planting an indoor herb garden is the container you plant your herbs in. You will want to be sure that you plant your herbs in containers that are attractive, but also that those containers are adequate for the herbs you put in them. Some plants, such as Mint, like very moist soil, so you would put it in a pot that allowed it to stay moist.

Indoor herb gardens are beautiful, practical and easy to grow. With little effort, you can enjoy fresh herbs all year long.
